Poetry isn’t one thing that serves one purpose. It’s a way of making patterns that put emotions into words. -Stephen Burt
I recently saw this quote on Twitter and couldn’t help but share it. In his Ted Talk, poetry critic Stephen Burt talks about how poetry helps us look beyond death to remember and celebrate people, how poetry makes us want to be alive. Poems don’t tell us what someone did or where they were, they show us the raw emotion of human beings. You can read a poem from a long-deceased author and form an emotional connection through the poems they left behind, little pieces of their self.
A fantastic reminder of the power held in the words we use.
